THE The Sunstone Foundation offers three types of grants, all focused on strengthening nonprofits working in education, equality, and mental health. Choose the application that best fits your needs. If you’re not sure, read the descriptions below as each grant is designed for a specific purpose.
Grant Applications are available to 501c3 nonprofits that have OR have not received a grant from The Sunstone Foundation. Grant applications will be reviewed quarterly by The Sunstone Foundation Board of Directors. PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTIONS CAREFULLY TO DETERMINE WHICH APPLICATION IS RIGHT FOR YOUR NONPROFIT
Operational Support Grant
For nonprofits seeking help with back-office operations such as finance, HR, IT, or compliance. These grants strengthen organizational capacity so leaders can focus on mission and impact.

General/Program Grant
Funding for new or ongoing projects that directly advance your mission in education, equality, or mental health. General grants typically do not cover salaries or general overhead.

Book Request Grant
The book request grant was initiated to fund and purchase books directly for literacy programs at significant discounts, allowing your dollars to go further.

A: All applications will be open year round, and will be reviewed once per quarter at the Sunstone Foundation Board of Directors meeting.
All applications will be due on the last day of each quarter (March, June, September, December) to be reviewed at the next Sunstone Board meeting. -
A: While there is not necessarily a maximum grant amount that a nonprofit can apply for, we have listed the previously approved average grant sizes per annual budget:
Annual Budget under $100k: $1k - $5k grant application
Annual Budget under $1 million: $1k - $25k grant application
Annual Budget over $1 million: $1k - $100K grant application
If you would like to apply for a grant application over $100k, reach out to samantha@sunstoneproject.org so we can request additional information before seeking Board approval.

Q: WILL I FIND OUT IF MY APPLICATION IS DENIED?
A: If you submit an application that is not approved at the next Board of Directors Meeting, you will hear via email within three (3) weeks of the decision.

A: You can continue to apply quarterly if your application is denied. If your application is approved, you will be unable to apply for a renewal application/additional book request application for one (1) calendar year

A: You can request up to 2,000 books per quarter. Please be as specific as possible in your book request application about the ages, quantities, demographic, or title requests when completing your application!
